SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 6, 2021) – The Western New England University women's basketball suffered their first defeat of the season as they fell to Nichols 66-63 on Saturday afternoon.

Top Performers
Senior Emily Scurka led the Golden Bears in scoring with 17 points while grabbing right rebounds. Junior Julia Quinn scored 11 points grabbed eight boards.

Nichols senior Isabella Nerney led all scorers with 21 points. Sophomore Leandra Ortiz scored 17 points and senior Shannon St. Lawrence had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Game Review
The Golden Bears and the Bison exchanged baskets throughout the first quarter with multiple lead changes occurring over the first ten minutes. A layup from sophomore Abby Garaban gave Western New England a 16-15 lead going into the second quarter.

With the score at 24-22, the Golden Bears went on an 8-0 run to push the lead to 32-22 with 2:41 remaining in the half. Western New England held their lead throughout the third quarter, with a made jump shot from junior Grace Fisher in the final seconds of the third quarter to make the score 57-42. The Bison rallied in the fourth quarter to take the win.
