Softball Splits at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, Mass. (April 10, 2021) – The Western New England University softball team split their doubleheader at Roger Williams in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Game 1: Roger Williams 3, Western New England 2
Junior Dina DiBlasio, first-year Taylor Keegan, first-year Madison Mason, and first-year Kaleigh Blades each had one hit for the Golden Bears.

Katrina Goria had two hits for the Hawks. Lia Nocella went the distance, throwing six strikeouts.

The Hawks got things going early, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Goria hit an RBI double and then scored later in the inning. The game was scoreless until Western New England got on the board in the top of the fifth inning, scoring two runs to tie the game at 2-2. Roger Williams responded in the next half inning to take a 3-2 lead.

Six different players had hits from the Golden Bears, including a home run from DiBlasio and a double from sophomore Lexie Hemstock.

Goria had three hits for the Hawks, while Bay Naples and Sydney Provencal both had two hits.

Roger Williams scored runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. Western New England exploded for five runs in the sixth inning. DiBlasio got things started to lead off the inning with a home run. Later in the inning, the Golden Bears took advantage of a bases loaded opportunity. Sophomore Paige Baca walked with the bases loaded to tie the game at 2-2. Hemstock came in as a pinch hitter and hit a three-run double to give Western New England a 5-2 lead.
