Softball Drops First Game, Wins the Second Game against Roger Williams

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 11, 2021) – The Western New England University softball team split their doubleheader with Roger Williams in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Sunday afternoon at Golden Bear Softball Park. 

Game 1: Roger Williams 7, Western New England 1
Junior Dina DiBlasio and first-year Kaleigh Blades each had two hits for the Golden Bears.

Jax Beaulieu, Bay Naples, and Alex Lombardo each had two hits for the Hawks, while Lombardo and three RBI's and Naples had two RBI's.

Western New England got on the board in the bottom of the first when sophomore Kailey Carrano singled to right field to send Blades across the plate. Roger Williams tied it in the top of the fourth inning and extended that lead in the top of the fifth inning when Lombardo and Naples both hit two-run doubles. The Hawks scored two more in the sixth, including a home run from Lombardo.
 

Game 2: Western New England 10, Roger Williams 3
Carrano led the Golden Bears in game two, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI's. DiBlasio, Blades, and sophomore Lexie Hemstock all had two hits.

Sydney Provencal and Katrina Goria each had two hits for the Hawks.

Western New England got off to a strong start, scoring five runs in the first inning. DiBlasio hit a two-run single to give the Golden Bears a 2-0 lead and then in the next at-bat Carrano hit a three-run home run to go up 5-0. The Golden Bears kept their foot on the gas, extending the lead to 9-2 by the end of the fourth inning.
