Box Score 2 Newport, R.I. (April 2, 2021) – The Western New England University softball team dropped a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) games at Salve Regina on Friday evening.
Game 1: Salve Regina 7, Western New England 0
Junior Dina DiBlasio and sophomore Cori Rizzo each had two hits for the Golden Bears in their first game of the season.
Freshman Christina Braid and junior Laruen Packer each had two hits and two runs batted in for the Seahawks. Sophomore Sophia Strazza hit a two-run triple while Braid hit a two-run home run.
Game 2: Salve Regina 8, Western New England 7 (8 innings)
Sophomore Lexie Hemstock led the Golden Bears in game two with two hits and three runs batted in.
Packer had three hits for the Seahawks, while junior Niiki Vanelli and junior Kendall Duprey each had two runs batted in.
The Golden Bears went up 6-0, scoring five runs in the top of the fourth inning, including Hemstock's two run double. The Seahawks scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie it. Western New England took a 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth when sophomore Maggie Marquardt scored on a wild pitch. Salve Regina responded in the next half inning when Vanelli hit a walk off two run home run.

Western New England (0-2) and Salve Regina (4-2) will play each other on Saturday for a doubleheader at Golden Bear Softball Park. First game is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
