Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine (February 26, 2022) – The Western New England men's ice hockey team dropped the CCC Quarterfinal game on Saturday night from the Harold Alfond Forum against No. 11 University of New England by a final score of 4-1. The Golden Bears concluded the 2022 season with the loss.

How it Happened:
The Golden Bears, who have dropped nine straight coming into the contest, were looking for their first win over the Nor'easters on the season after going 0-3 against the University of New England on the year, including 0-1 at Harold Alfond Forum. The Golden Bears did not get off the start they were looking for, as UNE controlled much of the offensive play in the first period. Western New England took a game low five shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of play, while UNE peppered Colten Lancaster with 14 shots on goal in the first period of play. The Golden Bears held off the University of New England of the scoreboard until the final minute of the period when Daniel Winslow opened the scoring in the contest to give UNE a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.
The Nor'easters would continue to pace play in the second period, allowing just six shots on goal for the Golden Bears. At the midway point of period, the Nor'easters would grab their second goal of the night, and first of the night from Jared Christy, who gave the Nor'easters a 2-0 lead. UNE would shoot 15 times on goal in the second period, with Lancaster coming through with 14 saves in the period.
UNE would take control of the game with back-to-back goals with just over five minutes to play as Jared Christy would score his second and third of the night, collecting a hat trick for the Nor'easters, giving them a 4-0 lead. Western New England would find twine with under three minutes to play, ruining the shutout for Billy Girard IV as Sam Mitchell scored the only goal of the game for the Golden Bears, on assists from Shane Miller and Jordie Morgan. The Golden Bears would ultimately fall in the CCC Quarterfinal game, by a score of 4-1.
Inside the Crease:
- Colten Lancaster made 39 saves on 43 shots on goal in the losing effort. The Golden Bears came away with just 17 shots on goal in the 60 minutes of play.
- Sam Mitchell finished the season by scoring the only goal of the game for the Golden Bears. Shane Miller and Jordie Morgan picked up assists for WNE in the loss.
- WNE closes out the season by dropping ten straight and not having won a game in regulation since November 27, 2021.
