Men's Wrestling Downed at Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. (January 27, 2023) – The Western New England men's wrestling team battled hard against the hosting No. 13 Spartans of Castleton University, though would fall short in the match, 33-6. 

How it Happened:

The Golden Bears would be unable to come away with victories in the first five matches, putting themselves behind 20-0 early. Senior captain Sean Monteiro would grab the first win of the night for in the 165 lb. weight class match for WNE after a 9-3 decision victory would get Western New England on the board in the match, grabbing three points for the Golden Bears. 

After dropping the next two matches, Western New England captain Darby McLaughlin would step onto the match and take down Castleton's Haven Tatrek on a 3-2 decision in the 197 lb. weight class match to give Western New England another three points. WNE would drop the match 33-6. 

Nick Faraci, Ayden Cheng, Karriem Hoe, and Keon Ayala would also be victorious for Western New England in exhibition action.

  • Western New England heads to Southern Maine for the Southern Maine quad where WNE will take on the Huskies, Trinity (Conn.) University, and Plymouth State University on Saturday, February 4 beginning at 12:00 pm.
