Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. (January 28, 2023) – The Western New England women's ice hockey team dropped their second straight Commonwealth Coast Conference game to the Rams of Suffolk University on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 2-1 contest on the road.

Records:

  • Western New England: 11-6-3, 6-5-2 CCC
  • Suffolk University: 13-5-1, 11-1-1 CCC

How it Happened:

Western New England would be looking for their first win of the season on Saturday evening against the Rams, who lead the CCC with ten wins coming into tonight's action. Suffolk would open the game with the first goal of the night when Jenna Caballero would light the lamp on the powerplay to give Suffolk a 1-0 lead. Shana Cote and Miranda Gaudet would pick up assists for the Rams. Western New England goalkeeper Rieley Jessie-Gerelli made 15 saves in the period while WNE would come away with just four shots in the period.
Offense would come alive for WNE in the second period, which would reward the Golden Bears with their first goal of the game when Maddy Tucker found twine on assists from Katie Cronin and Emma Birmingham to even the score at one, just five minutes into the second period. Suffolk needed five minutes to get back on the board to take a 2-1 lead when Miranda Gaudet added to her point total on the night, finding the back of the net on assists from Madison Ricardo and Madison Duff to give the Rams their one goal lead back. Alyssa Murphy and Emma Birmingham would have quality chances for WNE in the period, but Suffolk GK Hannah Gordon came away with big saves to keep the Golden Bears off the scoreboard. Western New England held the shots advantage 16-11 in the second period.

In the third period, both teams scrambled to either even the score or extend the lead, though neither of the teams would be able to complete that task as no team would score in the third period despite plenty of chances from both teams. Western New England would grab ten shots in the final period though Hannah Gordon would swallow them all, sending Suffolk to a 2-1 win over the Golden Bears on Saturday night.
