How it Happened:
The Golden Bears started the game with Braylon Casinghino in net. On the other end of the pitch was Hudson Bennett, the Fighting Scots' goalkeeper. The game got underway, with Gordon kicking off play. Both teams tried to settle into the game, but it was Gordon who was putting the pressure on early with runs down toward the Golden Bear net. However, they were not able to get any shots off. The 12th minute saw the first shot of the game. It was Jack Leland sending the shot in, but it was off-target, and play resumed. Again, Gordon would try to make a run toward the Golden Bear net, but WNE played strong defense, and it led to Matt Spruill having a shot on target that Bennett made the save on to keep the score knotted at zero. In the 19th minute, Roger Leland went for goal, but it would not worry Bennett in net. Shortly after that, Shay O'Neill put a shot on net. Bennett had to make the save.
The Golden Bears were putting most of the pressure on the Fighting Scots now. Play would resume with more back-and-forth play. That would continue until the 30th minute when Mike Riley sent a shot to the top of the net that Bennett had to make a save on. The Golden Bears got another shot in the 39th minute from AJ Quiterio, but it was blocked by the Gordon defense. Then, in the 40th minute, Hunter Perry got the ball inside the 18-yard box and sent a one-touch right-footed shot right into the bottom right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead. The first half would finish with a shot by AJ Quiterio that went wide left of the net. The half ended with a stat line that favored the Golden Bears. They led in shots (8-0), shots on goal (4-0), and fouls (7-3). Gordon led in saves 3-0 and corner kicks 3-1. The Golden Bears had a 1-0 lead going into the second half.
Coming out of the break, the Golden Bears were back on the hunt for another goal. The 48th minute saw Jayden Montagna go for goal but miss high and left. The 54th minute saw Gordon get back in the action and get their first shot of the game. Adrian Chiang sent a shot at net that Braylon Casinghino had to make a quick save on to keep the Golden Bears in the lead. That led to a corner kick and then a shot by Henry McElroy on goal. Casinghino made the save, though. Then, Benji Wright, in the 56th minute, made Casinghino make another save from close range. Wright would rebound it, but the next shot was wide of the net. That left the door open for the Golden Bears. Shay O'Neill had a shot at the beginning of the 59th minute. However, it was blocked. Then, Malik Serisser would send the ball into the box, where Sam Riley would get up and send a header shot into the back of the net to give the Golden Bears a 2-0 lead. The Fighting Scots started to work the ball down the pitch more, which led to a shot in the 62nd minute by McElroy. Casinghino made the big save. The next shot would be in the 74th minute, by Noah Martin, for Gordon. It would go wide and right of the net. The same was true in the 77th minute when Martin had another shot. Gordon kept pushing forward, and Benny Simpson would have a shot blocked in the 81st minute. O'Neill would flip the script in the 85th minute with a shot, but it went wide left and high of the net. The game would resume with more back and forth before ending with the Golden Bears winning the game by a score of 2-0. The final stats showed the Golden Bears with 12 shots to the eight by Gordon. They also had five shots on goal compared to the four by the Fighting Scots. Casinghino made four saves, and Bennett made three. Gordon had six corner kicks compared to the one by WNE. Lastly, WNE had more fouls by a score of 14-10.
