Conrad Swanson and defensive back
Ben Caulfield have been named CCC Athletes of the Week, as announced by the head office this afternoon.
Swanson carried the pack on offense this week as Western New England defeated the University of New England by a final score of 42-7. The senior quarterbacks completed five passes for the Golden Bears, throwing for 127 yards while tossing one touchdown.
Swanson threw a season-high 53-yard pass for a touchdown in the win. On the ground,
Swansonran 11 times, producing 104 net yards for WNE and scoring one touchdown. The East Greenwich, R.I., native ran a 39-yard play on the ground while rushing home an 18-yard score to put the game out of reach for the Nor'easters. This season, the senior has completed 71 passes for 1,017 yards, tossing nine touchdown passes on the season while rushing 68 times for 502 yards and crossing the end zone three additional times.
Swanson has averaged just under 200 total yards per game on the season, leading WNE to a 2-1 CCC record.
First-year
Ben Caulfield stymied the Nor'easters offense this weekend, coming away with six solos and one assisted tackle, good for seven tackles in the win, which set a new career high that was previously set at six tackles the week prior against Husson University.
Caulfield came away with his second interceptions of the season in Saturday afternoon's win to help hold the hosting Nor'easters to just seven points on the afternoon, their lowest total mark of the season.
Western New England improves to 5-0 all-time against UNE, holding the Nor'easters to 17 points less in four of those five contests. The Golden Bears are back in action for their final home game of the season on Saturday, November 4, at 1:00 pm when Nichols College visits Springfield for WNE's senior day.
