Men’s Wrestling Goes 2-1 At Springfield City Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 11, 2023) – The Western New England men's wrestling team came away with two victories at the Springfield City Championships on Saturday afternoon, falling to Springfield College while defeating American International College and Spirngfield Technical Community College. 

How it Happened (vs. Springfield College):
The Pride earned the first six points in the match, coming away with victories in the 125 lb. weight class and the 133 lb. weight class to move ahead 10-0. The Golden Bears saw Austin Monteiro take down Ryan Kozdra by a 4-2 decision to get Western New England on the board for their first three points of the match in the 141 lb. weight class. Peter Charnley would earn a big 11-9 victory for Western New England in the 149 lb. weight class, while Cam Hines and Sean Monteiro would also come away with victories for the Golden Bears in their respective weight classes. Springfield would come away with wins in the 174, 184, and 285 while Griffin Ostrom defeated Nick Rogers in a 6-5 decision as SC defeated Western New England 28-15.

How it Happened (vs. AIC):
The Golden Beats would take care of business in their dual with AIC, giving up just one match to the Yellow Jackets. Western New England would see a forfeit victory come out of the 125 lb. weight class, while Colby Reilly would collect his first win of the day in a 2-0 decision win. The Golden Bears would take two major decision wins, as both Austin Monteiro and Sean Monteiro would grab those victories for WNE. Spencer Dickinson would wrap up the 285 lb. weight class with a win over Hayden Gaudette via decision 5-1.
