Glaropoulos Wins 174, Takes Deciding Match in Win over Rhode Island College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (December 1, 2023) – The Western New England men's wrestling team came away with four straight victories to close their dual match win over the hosting Anchormen of Rhode Island College, taking down the hosts by a final score of 25-18. CJ Glaropoulos's pinfall victory in the 174 lb. weight class sealed the deal for the blue and gold.

How it Happened:
Western New England came away with 25 points on the night to defeat Rhode Island College 25-18. Jaylen Hawkins opened competition with a win for the Golden Bears in the 184 lb. weight class, defeating Roel Johnson in a pinfall victory in 1:50. The Anchormen would come alive in the 197, 285, 125, and 133 pound weight class matches, taking key victories to put Rhode Island College ahead in the match by a score of 15-6. From there, Western New England would come around to take control as Austin Monteiro defeated Owen Roche in the 141 bout, taking a major decision victory of 18-10.

WNE would win the final three matches of the night as Cameron Hines took a major decision victory, 15-2, in the 157 lb. match. Sean Monteiro would take down Christopher McCarthy in a tech-fall victory, grabbing five points for the Golden Bears, winning 22-7 in 6:29. Western New England would be up 19-18 with the 174 lb. weight class match remaining. WNE would see CJ Glaropoulos earn a pinfall victory in 4:10 to take the match and defeat Rhode Island College by a final score of 25-18.
