Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 13 Bantams Run Over Golden Bears, 84-46

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (December 9, 2023) – The Western New England men's basketball team dropped a road tilt on Saturday afternoon to the nation's 13th-ranked Bantams of Trinity University (Conn.), falling 84-46 in a one-sided battle.

Records:
  • Western New England: 6-4
  • 13 Trinity (Conn.) University: 11-0
How it Happened:
After pulling off the upset a season ago on home court, the Western New England men's basketball team looked to do the same thing on the road this season in a matchup with the Bantams. The Golden Bears wouldn't get their first bucket until seven minutes into the first half, seeing Trinity open the game with the first nine points. Gavin Greene opened the scoring for the Golden Bears, connecting on a three-ball to help WNE look to get back into the game. Two quick fouls would send Western New England's Jake Harrison to the bench as the Bantams would put on the pressure early and often, never losing the lead in the game. Western New England's second basket would come on the way of a three-ball with 8:38 to play in the first half when Brian Geitner cashed in from deep, though the Bantams would already hold a double-digit lead at that point, still leading 18-6. Trinity would roll all afternoon long, leading by as many as 31 in the first quarter as the ice-cold shooting of the Golden Bears would prove to be their downfall on the afternoon. Western New England would trail 48-19 after one half of play.

The second half went nearly equal to the first as the Golden Bears could not find their offensive footing on the afternoon while the 13th-ranked Bantams would continue to roll over the Golden Bears. Gavin Greene connected on the first six points of the second half for the Golden Bears as Western New England trailed by 30, 58-28, with 16 minutes to play in the half. Trinity would maintain at least a 25-point lead throughout the second half to claim victory over the Golden Bears. Arik Dagan would hit a three-ball with 13:29 and 11:09 remaining in the game, though the nation's 13th-ranked team would be too much to handle on this Saturday afternoon for the Golden Bears as Western New England would drop an 84-46 contest.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Gavin Greene (13) and Cody Palazzessi (12) were the only Golden Bears to record double figures in scoring on the day.
  • WNE falls to 0-2 against ranked opponents this season (Keene State).
  • Ben Callahan-Gold finished with 25 points for Trinity to lead all scorers.
Up Next on the Schedule:
  • Western New England will look to flip the page after the break, returning home on Tuesday, January 2, at 7:30 PM for a conference game with Wentworth Institute of Technology.
