FAIRFIELD, Conn. (February 8, 2023) – The Western New England women's wrestling team traveled to Sacred Heart University on Wednesday evening for a tri match with the hosting Pioneers as well as the Columbia University Lions. WNE would drop both matches, falling to sixth ranked Sacred Heart 44-5 and Columbia University, 29-15. 

How it Happened (vs. Sacred Heart): 

Western New England would compete in four matches against the host squad, taking one victory. Victoria Orender would drop the 123 lb. weight class match via fall in 0:35 to SHU's Nohea Moniz. Teammate Sabrina Sedor would come up short to Belen Rios on a loss via fall in 0:53. WNE would collect their lone win in the 136 lb. weight class match when Kendall Branchaud defeated Aliza Leander via fall in 2:18 to grab the lone five WNE points in the match. Lillyann McDorman would battle for the Golden Bears in the 191 lb. weight class match, though would ultimately be dropped via tech-fall 10-0, sending sixth ranked Sacred Heart to a 44-5 victory. 

How it Happened (vs. Columbia University):

Victoria Orender would collect a win over Eva Sedana via fall in 0:29 to give the Golden Bears their first win over the Lions. Orender would win the 123 lb. weight class match. The 130 lb. weight class match would also belong to the Golden Bears and Sabrina Sedor, who took down the Lions' Chelsea Marcelle via fall in 0:29. WNE would grab their last win of the night in the 136 lb. weight class when Kendall Branchaud collected a victory via fall in 1:06 over Sabrina Leary to give Western New England five points, totaling 15 for the match.
