SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 6, 2024) – The Western New England women's wrestling team took down the visiting Pilgrims of New England College on Saturday afternoon behind three match victories.
How it Happened:
After the Pilgrims took the 109 lb. weight class match, Western New England would steam to six consecutive wins on the afternoon to put the hosts in front.
Victoria Orender would earn a forfeit win in the 116 lb. weight class, while
Janieliz Cotto would collect a victory via TF (12-2 in 2:18) in the 123 lb. weight class over NEC's Olivia Delegas to get Western New England on the board.
Gianna Silva and
Linda Holeman would take forfeit victories, giving the blue and gold a lead in the match.
Dakota-Marie Dinielli, captain of the WNE women's wrestling team, would need just one minute and 21 seconds to take down Olivia Wojtusik of New England College on a TF, 12-0, to earn a victory.
Kendall Branchaud would come out in the 155 lb. weight class and take down NEC's Rebecca Eaton to earn the final victory of the afternoon for the Golden Bears, taking down Eaton via TF 10-0 in 2:15. In total, Western New England would grab 27 points on the afternoon, defeating the Pilgrims 27-16.
