SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 9, 2024) – The Western New England men's basketball team put together a complete effort on Tuesday night on home floor, defeating the visiting Suffolk University Rams by a final score of 76-50. Three Golden Bears recorded double figures in scoring while outrebounding the visitors 39-24.

How it Happened:
Western New England grabbed the first bucket of the game when
Tim Restall was able to bully his way to the rim, scoop, and score to get the Golden Bears rolling. Suffolk would grab their first and only lead of the game at 4-2 just 1:03 into the game. Western New England had not trailed in their last three games until this time.
Mike Resnick and
Jake Harrison would get WNE's lead back, while
Harrison would drop a quick five points to give WNE a 9-4 lead. Western New England would continue to put the pressure on the visitors, holding a double-digit lead just ten minutes into the game when
Matt Houde connected on free throws to give the Golden Bears a 21-10 lead. After going back and forth with Suffok, WNE would score eight of the final 12 points of the first half, with
Brian Geitner,
Gavin Greene,
Tim Restall, and
Jake Harrison scoring for the Golden Bears in that span. Western New England shot 57% from the field in the opening frame, including 12/15 from inside the paint. The Golden Bears cashed in on all six free throws in the half. Suffolk shot 37% from the field in the half, connecting on two triples.
Restall would give Western New England their first 20-point lead of the game, leading Suffolk 51-31 with 15:36 to play in the second half. WNE would keep on the gas all night long, with
Brian Geitner cashing in from deep while
Tim Restall would convert four points in a row as the Golden Bears would maintain their 20-point lead with eight minutes remaining in the contest. WNE would lead by as many as 26 points in the game, which rounded out the scoring for the Golden Bears as Western New England took down Suffolk 76-50, their largest win margin of the season. Gavin Green finished the game with 15 points and six rebounds, shooting 7/11 from the field while grabbing one assist and one steal.
Tim Restall recorded 14 points for the blue and gold, shooting 6/9 from inside the paint while grabbing five points and three steals, tied for the team best.
Brian Geitner also recorded double digits in scoring, splashing 3/4 from three-point land while shooting 4/6 overall.
Inside the Lines:
- WNE had now defeated Suffolk in four straight games. The 26-point win is their second-largest win margin over the Rams, with a 95-66 win in 2006 being their largest.
- WNE shot 50% from the field (29/57) while splashing home seven three balls. The Golden Bears made 11/13 free throws, well above their season mark.
- The Golden Bears outrebounded Suffolk 39-24.
- The WNE bench outscored the Suffolk bench 25-9.
