How it Happened:

With Molly McLaughlin in net for the Golden Bears and Samantha MacCormack in net for the Gulls, the game kicked off. The fourth minute saw immediate action as Keara Conroy had a shot going into the goal; however, the Gulls' defense saved the shot. A corner kick ensued for WNE, but Endicott cleared it. The Gulls responded with a corner kick in the 9th minute and a Morgan Hubert shot, which McLaughlin saved in the 11th minute. That is how the start of the first half would go. The teams went back and forth with shots. Endicott had a shot in the 19th minute blocked, and WNE responded with a shot in the 20th minute, which was blocked. The teams each had a corner kick during that time, as well. However, neither team could find the opening goal. The teams traded possession back and forth. WNE earned a corner kick in the 29th minute, but it was cleared by the Gulls' defense. Brynn Murphy had a shot saved by MacCormack in the 33rd minute. MacCormack saved Keara Conroy's shot in the 36th minute, as well. The Golden Bears were starting to generate momentum towards the end of the first half and saw MacCormack make another save in the 44th minute when Brynn Murphy had a shot on goal. The first half ended a few moments later with the teams tied 0-0. The Golden Bears led in shots 5-2, shots on goal 4-1, and fouls 6-3. The Gulls led in saves 4-1, and both teams had two corner kick opportunities.

The Gulls were the first team to record a shot on goal in the second half. A 49th-minute shot from Ella Morgan made McLaughlin make a save. The Golden Bears would respond with pressure and a corner-kick opportunity in the 52nd minute. That was followed by a minute of Endicott pressure. They had three corner kick opportunities and two shots from the 57th to the 58th minute. McLaughlin had to make one save on a shot from Callie Nells. Endicott kept the momentum on their side by earning a corner kick in the 61st minute. However, Liza Pinette would answer for WNE, with a shot saved by MacCormack in the 64th minute. That was followed by a shot from Morgan Hubert, which McLaughlin saved in the 67th minute.

The teams traded possession back and forth without a shot until the 75th minute when the Golden Bears had a shot go over the goal. The 78th and 79th minutes had Endicott shots. The second, from Chloe Bauman, was saved by McLaughlin. Then, in the 83rd minute, the Golden Bears broke through. Isabella Montalvo had the ball, moving towards the Endicott net. Montalvo found Lindsay Reidy with a pass, and Reidy sent a shot from outside the penalty box off the crossbar and into the goal. The Golden Bears had a 1-0 lead with 7:26 left in the game. Endicott applied more pressure with a shot wide in the 84th minute and a shot blocked in the 86th minute. They had the final shot of the game in the 88th minute. However, it went over the goal. The Golden Bears would hold on to grab the shutout victory. That was McLaughlin's 28th career shutout, a new program record for women's soccer. The final stats saw the Gulls leading 11-8 in shots and 6-3 in corner kick opportunities. WNE led 6-5 in shots on goal, 11-9 in fouls, and both teams had five saves.

Coach's Corner

Coach Hensinger was asked for a comment after the game. "It was a total team effort today. We're battling through injuries; it was great to see people step up into new roles. I'm very proud of how the team played today, we need to figure out a way to bring this level of energy for the remainder of the season," Hensinger commented.

Game-winning goal-scorer Lindsay Reidy was asked to take us through the goal and was asked how it felt to get the game-winning goal on the road against a conference opponent. "It felt great. This was my class's first win against Endicott. On the goal, I saw Bella dribbling forward and a lane open for me to move into, as the ball came across my body, I know I was only going to get one touch on the ball, very happy to get the shot on frame," Reidy stated.

Molly McLaughlin was asked how it feels to pick up a second program record this season and was also asked for a comment on the game. "It feels great, but once again, I have my team to thank for it. It was a hard fought game, and it took all 90 minutes, but we got the result we needed," McLaughlin answered.
