Beacons Clip Women’s Tennis in Final Non-Conference Match

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 3, 2024) – The Western New England women's tennis team fell just short in their final non-conference match of the season, dropping a 4-3 contest to the Beacons of UMass-Boston on Thursday afternoon from Forest Park Tennis Courts.

Records:
  • Western New England: 2-6
  • UMass-Boston: 7-2
How It Happened:

The Golden Bears would pick up a victory in the third doubles pairing, seeing Leina Salomon and Kelsey Wyse come away with a 6-4 win over UMB's Kate Vivia Romero and Kayla Calderone. Despite the win, Western New England would drop the doubles point as all four of Sydney Shepard, Emma Miller, Kayla Ledoux, and Yasmine Giacalone would fall 6-2 in their respective doubles pairings in the first and second positions, dropping what turned out to be a key point in the match for WNE.

In singles action, Western New England would put up wins in the fourth, fifth, and sixth singles spots. Kelsey Wyse would pick up a convincing 6-0, 6-0 win over Kate Vivia Romero in the sixth spot for WNE, ending the match in quick succession. Gianna Arace would take down Kayla Calderone on a score of 6-4, 6-2 to earn another point for the Golden Bears. Sydney Shepard would also pick up a win in the fourth singles spot, taking a 6-3, 6-1 win to earn WNE another point, their third of the match. Western New England would compete hard in all six singles matches though would see UMass-Boston pick up victories in the first, second, and third singles spots to earn three points to their total score plus their one point for winning two of three doubles matches, collecting the 4-3 win over WNE.
