SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 5, 2024) – The Western New England women's tennis team fell in their final fall home match at Forest Park Tennis Courts to Suffolk University on Saturday afternoon, dropping a close 5-2 match.

- Suffolk University: 1-8, 1-5 CNE
How It Happened:
The Rams of Suffolk University came away with victories in all three of the doubles pairings, in which all three matches finished with 6-2 scores.
Malina Dinis and
Sydney Shepard would drop the decision in the first doubles spot,
Emma Miller and
Catie Seklecki in the second doubles spot, and
Gianna Arace and
Yasmine Giacalone in the third doubles pairings. Despite the losses for the Golden Bears, Suffolk would pick up just the one extra point, leaving opportunity for a Golden Bears comeback.
Suffolk would open with two quick wins in straight sets in the fifth and sixth positions as
Gabrielle Tirkot and
Gianna Arace would fall short, dropping 6-1, 6-1, and 6-1, 6-2 matches, respectively.
Emma Miller would battle Suffolk's top-spot graduate student Caren Urbano and would fall 6-1, 6-2. The Golden Bears would come away with a win in the second singles spot, seeing
Catie Seklecki pick up a 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 win, earning Western New England their first point of the afternoon. In the third singles spot, WNE first-year
Malina Dinis would go the distance with Suffolk's Nia Bebb, earning a three-set victory 6-2, 4-6, 10-7. In the fourth singles spot,
Sydney Shepard notched an opening set win though would not be able to come away with the win in the tiebreaker set, falling 6-2, 1-6, 4-10. Suffolk would take four of the six singles matches while earning the extra point in the doubles round, defeating Western New England 5-2.
