SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 23, 2024) – The Western New England men's wrestling team saw five of their own place in the top six of their respective weight classes at the Doug Parker Invitational on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Springfield College. Austin Mitrosky, Colin Carlin, Cameron Hines, Charles Maloy, and Spencer Dickinson were among those who placed for the Golden Bears on their way to a sixth-place finish out of 15 teams.

How it Happened:
Austin Mitrosky battled in his opening match of the 133 lb. weight class though would fall to enter the consolation bracket. The WNE first year would pick up a technical fall victory 19-4 over Gavin Denise of Centenary University to continue on in the weight class. Mitrosky would then bear Springfield College's Kevin Sevigny on a major decision win on an 11-3 count. Mitrosky would advance to the next round after a forfeit would occur. His fifth match of the day would come against teammate Trevor Young, as Mitrosky and Young would battle to get into the 5th/6th place match. Mitrosky would be victorious over his teammate on a 13-7 decision. The Manasquan, New Jersey native picked up a sixth-place finish overall after falling on a 4-2 decision in the 5/6 match.

The quarterfinal round was not as friendly to the WNE first year, who would drop a 9-0 major decision bout with eventual weight class champion Peter Kane. Carlin would go 2-1 overall on the mat on the afternoon to earn a sixth-place finish.

Cameron Hines continued to impress for the Golden Bears at the 165 lb. weight class, finishing third overall. Hines opened with a bye victory to move into the round of 16, where the WNE had no problem earning a major decision victory over Cooper Lavigne of Rhode Island College. Hines would continue to dominate on the mat in the quarterfinal round, picking up an 11-0 win over MMA's Bradford Zajac, getting a pinfall victory in 2:37 overall. Hines would fall just short to the weight classes' runner-up, Fisher Stites, earning third place overall in the 165 lb. weight class after a close 9-8 victory in his final match of the day.

Charles Maloy was involved in four matches on the afternoon for the Golden Bears, opening the 197 lb. weight class with a bye before picking up a massive pinfall victory in 1:22 after being down in the match to move onto the quarterfinal round. Maloy would leave no doubt in the final eight match, taking a major decision win, 14-5, over Springfield's Casey Allen. Maloy would be bested in the semifinals of the weight class to eventual champion Aris Dashiell of Wesleyan University on a 12-6 decision, picking up third place overall in the weight class after winning the third-place match 18-9 on a major decision.

Spencer Dickinson continued his placement reign after coming away with a bye in the opening round. The WNE senior picked up a 6-0 decision win in the round of 16. Dickinson would fall in 1:54 in the quarterfinal round though would storm back for three wins in the consolation bracket, a 7-1 win via decision.
a major forfeit victory, and a close bout in the fifth/sixth place mat. Dickinson would grab sixth place overall in the 285 lb. weight class.
