BRISTOL, R.I. (December 7, 2024) – The Western New England men's wrestling team collected a 35-15 victory over New Jersey City University on Saturday afternoon, splitting the double dual day after falling to New York University 43-6 earlier in the morning. The Golden Bears improve to 6-2 overall in dual action this season.
How it Happened (vs. New York University):
A dominant NYU squad would come away with nine victories over the Golden Bears in dual action. Austin Monterio's 141 lb. weight class match would be the closest, as the WNE would come just short of a decision victory, falling 7-5.
Charles Maloy would pick up two escape points in the 197 lb. weight class before falling via pinfall, dropping the match 5-2.
Spencer Dickinson picked up the lone victory for Western New England in the heavyweight weight class, winning via forfeit to come away with six points for the Golden Bears, who fell to NYU 43-6.

New Jersey City opened the dual match with the first three victories over the Golden Bears, scoring the first 12 points overall. The Golden Bears would come away with their first win of the match in the 149 lb. weight class when
Peter Charnley picked up a pinfall victory in 5:45 to earn Western New England six points. The Golden Bears were victorious in four more weight classes, 165, 174, 184, and 285, all coming as forfeit wins to put the blue and gold ahead in the match for good.
Charles Maloy would score a big victory in the 197 lb. weight class on a technical fall, 15-0, to earn WNE five more points, which would be all the Golden Bears needed to win the match, taking down NJC by a final score of 35-15.
