HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 20, 2024) – The Western New England women's tennis team could not take down the Flames of the College of St. Mary's (Nebraska) on Wednesday afternoon, falling 9-0.
How it Happened:
The Golden Bears were no match for the Flames in doubles action at the College of St. Mary's, who would come away with a quick 3-0 lead in the match after defeating the Golden Bears 8-1 in the doubles #1 position, 8-0 in doubles #2 position, and 8-1 in doubles #3 position.
Western New England would battle hard in singles, though would see the Flames come away with all six victories to take a 9-0 mach win.
Gabrielle Tirkot would go the distance with St. Mary's' Darece Van Auken, though, would fall in the third set tiebreaker and drop the match 5-7, 6-4, 11-13 in the fifth singles spot.
Emma Miller nearly came away with a victory in the opening set of the singles two spot, though dropped a close 4-6 decision.
