SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 25, 2024) – The Western New England men's tennis team picked up their second straight victory and fourth on the season on Thursday afternoon after defeating the Wolves of Western Connecticut State University by a score of 6-3.
Brandon Greger and
Henry Runyan would both go to the distance in the singles round and prevail to help the Golden Bears to a win.
How it Happened:
Western New England grabbed two of the first three points in doubles action as
Michel Abizaid Nunez and
Henry Runyan would collect an 8-3 win over the Wolves in the second doubles position, while teammates
Thomas Roche and
Kyle Poccia would nearly sweep their opponents in the third doubles spot, winning the third doubles position 8-1.
Nick Bayer would impress for Western New England in the top singles spot for the Golden Bears, coming away with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Western Connecticut's Kevin Tenesca. The Golden Bears would need three sets in both the third and fourth singles spots seeing both
Brandon Greger and
Henry Runyan go the distance.
Greger would drop the first set of his match at the three position though would fight back and take the second set 6-3. The junior completed the comeback with a 6-2 win over Sebastian Frisch to grab the win.
Henry Runyan would open the fourth singles spot with a 6-1 victory, though saw Western Connecticut's Caleb Harris come away with a 6-4 win in the second set, forcing a third set in which
Runyan would come away with a 6-2 victory, earning WNE another point towards victory.
Nolan Jermain would lock up the sixth singles spot for the Golden Bears, winning the match in two sets, 6-0, 6-2, as the Golden Bears would go on to win the match by a final score of 6-3.
