How it Happened:
Ella Henry and Maeve Zimmer started the game in goal for the Golden Bears and Engineers, respectively. Immediately, the Engineers sent shots at goal. They had two in the second minute of play. One of them, shot by Eva Oppenheim, was saved by Ella Henry; the other whistled wide of the net. The Engineers would control the ball for the majority of the first quarter. They had a shot go wide in the 6th minute, and a shot by Ingrid Tomovski get saved by Henry in the 9th minute. The 10th and 11th minutes saw Henry make two more saves. One on Tomovski and one on Bailey McIntyre. The Golden Bears had a breakaway opportunity towards the end of the first quarter. However, Zimmer would put a stop to the opportunity by pushing the ball away. That kept the game tied 0-0 at the end of the first quarter. The stat line showed the Engineers ahead in shots 6-0 and shots on goal 4-0. The Golden Bears had more saves, 4-0.
MIT turned up the pressure even more in the second quarter. The first four minutes of the second saw three shots and three penalty corners from the Engineers. McIntyre had the only shot on goal during that time span. Henry would make the save. The 6th minute of the second quarter saw two shots from the Engineers. Henry had to make one save and did. The Golden Bears could not get a shot off at all. MIT controlled possession and had twelve shots in the final seven minutes of the first half. That included seven shots on goal in just over two minutes. They also had six penalty corners during the final seven minutes of the half. The final shot on goal of the half happened in the 29th minute, with 1:08 left in the half. A shot by Bailey McIntyre was saved, but the rebound found Alice Zehner, who sent the ball into the back of the goal, and the score was 1-0, MIT, at halftime. The stats at half saw the Engineers leading in shots 23-0, shots on goal 13-0, and penalty corners 9-0. The Golden Bears were leading in saves 12-0.
The second half started similarly to the first. The Engineers controlled the play and did so for most of the third quarter. They had four shots in the 6th minute of the third quarter alone. Two of the shots were on goal, and the second one found the back of the goal. They also had four penalty corners, which tired the WNE defense before the goal. Bailey McIntyre found Katharina Jager, who would score the goal to double the MIT lead towards the middle of the third quarter. The teams traded possession for a little while after that. Both teams tried to find opportunities, but neither could find one. The Golden Bears would hold the Engineers to no more shots or penalty corners for the rest of the third quarter. At the end of three quarters of play, the score was 2-0 Engineers. The Engineers had more shots 4-0 in the third quarter, more shots on goal 2-0, and more penalty corners 4-0. The Golden Bears had more saves, 1-0.
The fourth and final quarter saw the Engineers score their third goal of the evening 5:02 into the quarter. Ingrid Tomovski would score a third goal of the season with a shot into the back of the net. It was an unassisted goal. With 8:02 left in the game, Tania Evans would get a shot on goal for the Golden Bears. Zimmer would make the save. Anna Duncan entered the game at goalie for the Engineers with 5:30 remaining in the game. The Engineers would continue to possess the ball for the majority of the rest of the fourth quarter. They would have one final opportunity when they had a penalty corner with 3:15 left in the game. The Golden Bears stopped that opportunity, and the game would finish minutes later. The Engineers beat the Golden Bears 3-0. The stat line showed the Engineers leading in shots 28-1, shots on goal 16-1, and penalty corners 14-0. The Golden Bears led 13-1 in saves.
