How it Happened:

With singles action opening the match, the Golden Bears looked to their 3-6 positions to produce victories to take four points in the match. First-year Malina Dinis opened the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Lesley's Lucy Boyce, earning her first collegiate victory of her career. Gabrielle Tirkot picked up where she left off from last season, earning a straight sweep over Ariane Ramos of Lesley, winning 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth singles spot. Gianna Arace, the lone senior for Western New England, would follow suit, picking up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Tali-Anna Sutherland to pick up WNE's third win of the match. WNE would finish off with a retirement victory after Kayla Ledoux would also win her first collegiate victory of her career, winning 6-0 in the first set before the Lynx sixth position was forced to retire.

The duo of Leina Salomon and Kelsey Wyse would both earn their first doubles victory together in the third position to clinch Western New England the match, taking a 6-0 victory, earning WNE a 5-4 win in the match.

"It was a very satisfying win because we had every player who was available in the lineup," said Head Coach Patrick Roche. "I'm very happy with how the cubs (freshmen) performed in their first college match."

The Golden Bears relied heavily on their first years on Friday in the win. Roche commented, "Practices have been going well to this point. The team is making progress and building confidence with an eye towards conference play."
