Men’s Wrestling Downs Delaware Valley For First Win Of 2025

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 8, 2025) – The Western New England men's wrestling team used two fall victories on Wednesday night to come away with a victory over the Aggies of Delaware Valley University, defeating the Aggies 34-17 for their first win of the new calendar year and seventh overall in dual action this season.

How it Happened:

The Golden Bears earned the first 12 points of the match as Beniamino Dicocco and Austin Mitrosky would benefit from forfeits from Delaware Valley at the 125 lb. weight class and 133 lb. weight class, which quickly gave Western New England a 12-0 lead in the match. DelVal would respond with a fall of their own in the 141 lb. weight class to cut Western New England's lead in half. A major decision victory at 149 would fall in favor of the road team as the Aggies would nearly make a quick comeback in short order of the Golden Bears. Colin Carlin would not let the Aggies get any closer, coming up with a technical fall win, 19-4 in 4:44, to pick up a crucial five points for Western New England at the 157 lb. weight class, delivering WNE a 17-10 lead.

In the 165 lb. weight class, Cameron Hines picked up WNE's second technical fall victory of the night, coming away with a win in seven minutes over DelVal's Darrale Barrett, which put the Golden Bears ahead 22-10 in the match. WNE's win streak would continue in the match at 174 after CJ Glaropoulos would take down Matt Mushinski in the opening ten seconds of the match and would never look back, coming away with a fall victory in 6:28, picking up six points for the Golden Bears. Western New England's final win of the night came in the 197 lb. weight class after Charles Maloy would pick up a fall in what was the fastest match of the night, earning the win in 3:42, coming away with the final six points that the Golden Bears needed to come away with a 34-17 win over Delaware Valley on Wednesday night.
