BOSTON, Mass. (October 18, 2025) – WNE and the Wentworth Institute of Technology faced off in Boston, Massachusetts. The Golden Bears were in search of three conference points on Saturday, and thanks to two goals from Tyler Lewis and one from Owen Dieterle, they would get the job done, 3-1.
Records:
- Western New England: 7-7-1 (6-2-0)
- Wentworth Institute of Technology: 3-9-4 (2-5-0)
How it Happened:
First Half
- Braylon Casinghino started in net for WNE with Isaac Chambass in the other net for Wentworth.
- WNE immediately started the game with pressure. Ben Riley had a 2nd-minute shot saved by Chambass.
- WNE then had corner after corner and a few Shay O'Neill shots, with one making Chambass make a save.
- After another shot saved for Chambass and a save on the other end from Casinghino, WNE struck.
- Tyler Lewis was sent the ball from Shay O'Neill as he broke through the defense, and he sent a shot into the upper-left corner of the goal to give WNE the 1-0 lead.
- The teams traded shots after that in the first half. Casinghino made another save, but the rest of the shots for both teams would slide wide of or over the goal.
- After 45 minutes of play, WNE had a 1-0 lead, had more shots, 9-6, more shots on goal, 5-2, and more corner kicks, 4-1. Wentworth had more saves, 4-2, and more fouls, 4-2.
Second Half:
- The second half started a little slower than the first half. However, it ramped up starting in the 54th minute when WNE earned a corner, which led to a shot that got blocked by Wentworth.
- However, WNE kept attacking and in the 58th minute, Tyler Lewis found the goal thanks to Cole Casinghino sending a pass across the penalty box. Tyler Lewis sent the ball into the lower-right corner of the goal. WNE led 2-0.
- WNE would not let up. Owen Dieterle found the back of the net in the 65th minute, thanks to Marcus Joshi sending a pass at Dieterle, which he deflected into the goal. WNE led 3-0.
- WNE held onto possession for the majority of the second half, with a shot going wide.
- Wentworth would get a goal back in the 81st minute. Younes Henniche had a pass find Mustafa Hassan, who sent a shot into the left side of the goal. WNE's lead was cut to 3-1.
- Wentworth would not go away after that. They had a shot chance go high. However, their resurgence was a little late as WNE would hold onto the ball towards the end of the game and secure the 3-1 victory.
Inside the Lines:
- The Golden Bears defeated the Leopards 3-1 on Saturday.
- Tyler Lewis scored the first goal in the 19th minute of the contest on an assist from Shay O'Neill. WNE led 1-0.
- Tyler Lewis scored a second goal in the 58th minute after Cole Casinghino found Lewis with a cross across the penalty box. WNE led 2-0.
- Owen Dieterle then found his first goal of the season in the 65th minute. Marcus Joshi had the assist. WNE led 3-0.
- Mustafa Hassan would cut the deficit to two for the Leopards in the 81st minute. Younes Henniche was credited with the assist. WNE still led 3-1.
- WNE led Wentworth in shots 17-8, corners 7-2, and shots on goal 7-3.
- Wentworth had more saves, 4-2, and fouls, 12-6.
Coach's Corner:
Devin O'Neill gave a comment after the conference victory. "Gritty performance from us, Wentworth put up a great fight. I thought we were a little bit loose with our final pass in a couple of key situations but certainly excited to get another very important conference win on the road," O'Neill stated. When asked what the team has to do better leading up to their next conference game, O'Neill mentioned, "I think at this point we're trying to get everyone back physically as we've become a little bit beat up and hopefully we can get a few people back for next weekend."
