  • Wesleyan University: 10-3 (5-3)

How it Happened:

  • Alex Tardugno and Audrey Pace started the game in goal for WNE and Wesleyan on Wednesday.
  • The first quarter of play was all Wesleyan. They would pick up a corner and a couple of shots that were blocked early in the game.
  • They would then have a shot saved, a corner, and two more shots saved by Tardugno.
  • The Cardinals sent everything they could at WNE. However, Tardugno made save after save.
  • WNE would not get a shot in the first quarter. Wesleyan had thirteen shots, with eight shots on goal. Tardugno saved every single shot on goal.
  • The second quarter saw WNE settle in with a shot on goal early in the second quarter. Pace made the save, and a few minutes later, Wesleyan would earn a corner.
  • That corner led to a shot by Brook Miner, who sent the shot off the goal post. The deflection went right to Georgia Adams, who took the corner, and Adams scored. Wesleyan led 1-0 in the 21st minute.
  • WNE would fight back for the equalizer goal with two corners and two shots. One of which had to be saved by Pace.
  • Wesleyan had the final three shots of the first half. One shot was wide, and Tardugno saved two.
  • At the end of the first half, WNE trailed 1-0, had fewer shots 18-3, fewer shots on goal 11-2, and fewer corners 7-2. WNE had more saves, 10-2.
  • The third quarter would see Wesleyan double their lead.
  • It started with Wesleyan earning another shot and corner.
  • WNE answered with a couple of corners and a shot that was deflected just wide of the goal.
  • Wesleyan would score in the 39th minute, when Georgia Adams scored a second goal on the evening. Meera Patel had the assist with a quick pass across the face of the goal that Adams dove at to score. Wesleyan led 2-0 in the 39th minute.
  • Neither team would have another shot for the rest of the quarter, and WNE trailed 2-0 after three quarters of play.
  • The fourth quarter saw WNE turn up the pressure, looking for their first goal of the contest.
  • They started the quarter with a couple of corners.
  • They would then have three shots and two corners in a row after a green card was shown to Wesleyan. Pace had to make two big saves and did to keep WNE down 2-0.

Coach's Corner:

Head coach Kyle Lyons spoke after the game. Lyons was asked for a comment on the team's hard-fought effort. "I thought it was a really great effort. We talked after the game about the consistency we are playing with right now and being able to put multiple full-game efforts without massive dips. It was a full 60-minute game. I thought (the team) came out with a mature, really strong, and gritty attitude, and with a team like that, we have nothing to lose. We knew we were playing a really nice, strong opponent—a clean opponent—and we just had to give it our all. I feel like they did, and they did it together. I think defense came up huge a lot, and on the flip side, we earned a lot of attacks, we earned a lot of corners. We just have to finish on those corners. We have to execute a little better to finish, but I think they did what we asked them to do, and I think going into this weekend's matchup with Roger (Williams University), that's a great test for us," Lyons stated. Lyons was then asked if anything could have been done better to help flip the script and possibly get the win. "I would say the execution on corners is massive. In some games, you may only get one of those, and you gotta make it count as best as we can. I think we got them off for the most part, meaning balls to net, and some shots on net, but rebounders got to do their job. We gotta execute there a little bit. Happy with how many we earned and what we were doing in the attacking end. That's been something we've lacked a little bit —our confident attack — and I feel like that's really shifted over the past few games. Just going a hundred percent, taking quick restarts, and getting in the circle. I think we need to shoot more, so that's the biggest thing I would have us continue working on. Just get in there, get a ball to net, and crash."

Up Next on the Schedule:

  • WNE will hit the road for their next CNE contest versus Roger Williams University on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM for their final conference clash of the season.
