SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 23, 2025) – The Western New England women's tennis team battled until the end in its final match of the fall season on Thursday afternoon, but fell by just a point to the Blue Jays of the University of Saint Joseph, a 4-3 match score.

How it Happened:
Western New England's top doubles pair wasn't able to get on the board first as
Emma Miller and
Malina Dinis fell in straight sets to Maddie Rossetti and Lili Garcia in the first doubles position.
Sydney Shepard and
Lauren Bilodeau gave the Golden Bears hope in the second doubles pair with a 6-4 win over USJ's Jill Milo and Allie Long as the teams were split heading into the third doubles pairing where the Blue Jays fought their way past the Golden Bears by a final score of 6-3, which proved to be a big victory for USJ in the end result. The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead after doubles play.
Sydney Shepard finished off a strong fall season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gia Alvarez, earning the first point of the afternoon for WNE.
Yasmine Giacalone and
Emma Miller both fell in their respective matches as the Blue Jays went ahead in the match 3-1. In a competitive fourth singles match,
Lauren Bilodeau dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision, which gave the match win to the Blue Jays, clinching the magic number of four. The final two matches went Western New England's way, however, as the sixth singles spot saw
Kayla Ledoux earn a 6-3, 6-2 win while the longest match of the afternoon, the second singles match, earned
Malina Dinis a victory in the final match of the fall, a 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 victory over the Blue Jays. The Golden Bears nearly completed a comeback after being down early on the doubles point, but USJ was able to fight its way to a 4-3 victory over WNE, ending the season for the Golden Bears.
