MILTON, Mass. (October 25, 2025) – The Western New England football team was overwhelmed by the rushing offense of the Colonels from Curry College on Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England action, seeing Curry star Montie Quinn run 28 times for 233 yards and score four touchdowns, downing the Golden Bears by a final score of 52–31.

  • Curry College: 6–1, 4–0 CNE
How It Happened

First Quarter:
  • The Golden Bears stuffed the Curry offense on the opening drive of the game, holding the NCAA's leading rusher to just three yards and forcing a punt in a three-and-out drive. The blue and gold opened their first offensive drive with points, coming away with a field goal from Max LoGrasso, a 23-yard attempt, to give the Golden Bears a 3–0 lead. Matt LaMontagne highlighted the drive with 17- and 12-yard rushes to move WNE down the field.
  • The WNE special teams allowed a touchdown for the second straight week, this time seeing Curry's Kareem Chaplin take an 89-yard kickoff return to the house, giving the Colonels their first score and lead of the contest. WNE regained the lead on the next drive when a nine-play, 68-yard march ended in a touchdown pass from Paul Gorry to James Burg, putting the Golden Bears up 10–7. Matthew McGuire added a 40-yard rush to help move the offense.
  • It took Curry just four plays to answer, as a 53-yard pass from quarterback Anthony Santino to Colin Ridley gave the Colonels a 14–10 advantage, which they held after one quarter of play.
Second Quarter:
  • Western New England could not finish off its drive from the first quarter with points, forcing a punt from Rhys Surprenant, who delivered a 54-yard boot to pin Curry at its own seven-yard line. The Colonels were nearly sacked by the WNE defense on their next drive, losing six yards on the play as Nathaniel Mathis picked up a sack, giving the ball back to the Golden Bears.
  • Starting in great field position, WNE needed just four plays and 22 yards to find the end zone, as a fourth-and-one play turned into seven points when LaMontagne took the ball to the house, giving WNE a 17–14 lead.
  • Curry bounced back with a spark from its defense, grabbing an interception and turning that into points. A seven-play, 41-yard drive ended with the NCAA's leading rusher taking a two-yard run to the end zone, as Quinn put Curry back in front 21–17. The Colonels' defense then forced a three-and-out from the Golden Bears, gaining just five yards in 1:06, before the Curry offense struck again. The Santino–Ridley connection scored once more, this time on a 16-yard pass, extending the lead to 28–17 at halftime.
  • WNE ran 34 plays in the opening half and collected 183 total yards of offense. LaMontagne and McGuire combined for 115 rushing yards, while the defense held Quinn to just 37 yards on 12 carries.
Third Quarter:
  • A run-heavy offensive start to the half brought seven points for the Golden Bears, as an 11-play, 75-yard drive was capped off by LaMontagne's second touchdown of the afternoon, a 10-yard rush,  to pull WNE within one score at 28–24. LaMontagne rushed for 50 total yards on the drive.
  • Curry's ensuing drive consumed over half the quarter and resulted in a 27-yard field goal from Omar Aboutoui. Quinn rushed for 51 yards on the series, while a Santino pass to Matthew Bowen helped sustain the drive.
  • WNE responded with a 33-yard catch and run from De'Andre Harris, and McGuire added a 17-yard rush to set up first-and-goal at the Curry four-yard line as the quarter ended.
  • Western New England had the lone touchdown of the quarter, while Curry's field goal kept the Colonels ahead by seven, 31–24, entering the final period.
Fourth Quarter:
  • The Golden Bears opened the quarter by finishing their drive, as LaMontagne scored his third touchdown of the game and LoGrasso's extra point tied the contest at 31.
  • The Colonels answered in just 56 seconds, with Quinn breaking free for a 50-yard rushing touchdown to regain the lead, 38–31. Curry's defense then forced a three-and-out, with the WNE offense managing just two yards on the drive.
  • The Colonels extended their lead on the next possession, as Quinn found the end zone again on a 15-yard run to make it 45–31. Penalties on Western New England aided Curry's field position on the 10-play, 74-yard drive.
  • Quinn put an exclamation point on his dominant performance with a 70-yard touchdown run, finishing the day with 233 yards and four touchdowns as the Colonels secured a 52–31 victory.
