SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 4, 2025) – The Golden Bears returned to Suprenant Field for their CNE contest with Roger Williams. A third-minute goal from the Hawks doomed WNE, and they could not get the equalizer for the rest of the contest. WNE fell to RWU 1-0.

How it Happened:
First Half:
- The first half of Golden Bear Weekend's soccer doubleheader began with the women's soccer game, which saw Ainsley Napolitano and Coco Marrelli get the start in goal for WNE and RWU.
- The first shot of the game was from Mya D'Antonio, who found the goal with a shot after a Meghan Goutink assist. RWU led 1-0 in the third minute of the contest.
- WNE would find their form after the goal and have a couple shots before RWU had a shot saved by Napolitano.
- The teams traded shots and chances for a while before WNE had a major chance in the 40th minute.
- Marrelli had to make a sliding save. However, the ball deflected to Emma Forde, who sent the ball at a net with no goalie in the picture. A RWU defender would get in front of the shot for the team save, and RWU still led 1-0.
- Both teams had shots saved just before halftime, and RWU held that one-goal lead going into the second half.
- The first-half statistics showed WNE with more shots, 8-6. Both teams had three shots on goal. RWU had more saves, 3-2, corner kicks, 2-1, and fouls, 7-4.
Second Half:
- Liza Pinette started the second half for WNE with a shot on goal. Marrelli made the save.
- Mya D'Antonio answered for RWU. Napolitano made the save.
- The teams traded shots, with one team having a shot and the other following within a minute. The contest was back and forth for a while.
- RWU would get a couple more shots on goal than WNE, making it tough for WNE to get back into the game.
- WNE's last chance came from a Liza Pinette, 90th-minute shot that Marrelli made a save on to secure the 1-0 RWU shutout versus WNE.
Inside the Lines:
- Roger Williams defeated WNE 1-0.
- The lone goal was in the third minute. Mya D'Antonio scored off a Meghan Goutink assist.
