Golden Bears Take Important Doubles Point, Three Singles Matches To Earn CNE Victory Over Suffolk

BOSTON, Mass. (October 4, 2025) – The Western New England women's tennis team earned its second victory of the season on Saturday afternoon over the Rams of Suffolk University, earning the doubles point before winning three singles matches to claim a 4-1 victory in Conference of New England play.

How it Happened:

Western New England swept doubles play, all by 6-2 scores. Emma Miller and Sydney Shepard combined for a win in the top doubles spot, Yasmine Giacalone and Kayla Ledoux in the second doubles spot, and Lauren Bilodeau and Kelsey Wyse earned the win in the third doubles spot, giving WNE a 1-0 lead in the match.

With four courts at Belmont Hills Tennis Courts, the first four matches played out, and there was no need to play the rest, as WNE took three of the four matches to earn the match victory. Emma Miller picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win in the top singles spot for the blue and gold. Sydney Shepard was tied at five in the second set before winning the next two games to earn a 6-1, 7-5 win in the second singles position. Lauren Bilodeau took a straight-sets victory, 6-4, 6-2 in the third spot, locking up the victory for Western New England, a 4-1 win overall in the match.

Coach's Corner:
  • With their second win of the season in CNE play, Head Coach Steven Duquette commended his squad for their efforts on Saturday. "The indoor courts were slick and fast. We focused on warming up our slice backhands and slice serves to take advantage of the conditions."
Up Next on the Schedule:
  • WNE women's tennis returns home on Tuesday, October 7 at 3:30 PM for a CNE match against Gordon College.
