Four Golden Bears Go For Double Figures In 69-52 Win Over Eastern Connecticut

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 14, 2025) – The Western New England women's basketball team was led by four players in double-figure scoring on Friday night from the Anthony S. Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center, seeing Perry Blasetti, Lottia Barnes, Paige Winter, and Hannah Blake all heavily contribute in WNE's 69-52 win over the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University.

Records:
  • Western New England: 2-1
  • Eastern Connecticut State University: 0-2
How it Happened:

First Quarter:
  • The Golden Bears got out to a slow start, seeing the first seven points of the night belong to the Warriors as Nevaeh King splashed a three while Isabella Romero and Marissa Nudd got on the board early, giving Eastern a 7-0 lead. Paige Winter stopped the run with a quick three before the Warriors responded with another layup, starting 4/4 from the field.
  • The Golden Bears battled back to erase Eastern Connecticut's lead as Perry Blasetti and Hannah Blake put the ball into the bucket while Winter had six points early in the game, tying the contest at 11 with 4:43 remaining in the frame. Western New England opened a 10-2 run to grab a five-point lead with 3:00 remaining after Lottia Barnes checked into the game and began her sharpshooting for the night.
  • A high-scoring first quarter ended in favor of the Golden Bears, who took a 20-16 lead. Eastern Connecticut shot a proficient 7/11 from the floor in the opening frame but was doomed by its 1/6 free-throw shooting. The Golden Bears made 7/13 shots, including three triples.
Second Quarter:
  • WNE broke the game open in the second quarter as Lottia Barnes picked up the first four points of the frame, followed by a steal and score from Paige Winter, giving WNE its first double-digit lead of the game, 26-16, just three minutes into the quarter.
  • ECSU cut WNE's lead down to six at the 5:33 mark following buckets from Marissa Nudd and Maddie Topa, but a Devlyn McDonald three gave the Golden Bears a nine-point lead at the midway mark of the frame.
  • The Golden Bears ended the quarter on a quick 6-0 run, holding the Warriors to just seven points in the frame while Perry Blasetti and Hannah Blake contributed on the offensive end, giving the blue and gold a 37-23 halftime lead. Eastern made just two field goals in the quarter and shot 0/6 from distance. WNE made eight field goals and one triple, scoring 17 points overall.
Third Quarter:
  • The two teams exchanged points through the first three minutes of the third quarter. ECSU got WNE's 14-point halftime lead down to ten with 6:59 left in the quarter after Nudd continued to dominate for her squad. WNE punched back with more points from Lottia Barnes and Paige Winter while Perry Blasetti cashed in from distance, giving the Golden Bears their largest lead of the game, a 53-34 advantage.
  • Eastern Connecticut could only bring WNE's big lead down by four to end the third quarter, with Nudd scoring at the end of the third quarter, seeing the Golden Bears still lead 55-40. The Warriors hit eight field goals in the quarter while the Golden Bears made seven, shooting 50% from the floor overall.
Fourth Quarter:
  • Looking to mount a big comeback in the fourth, Eastern's Kately Novak splashed a triple to get the Warriors within ten, but another answer from Hannah Blake and Winter brought WNE's lead to 17. Blake and Lottia Barnes combined for the next five Western New England points, bringing the lead to 20 for WNE, the largest of the night.
  • Barnes had the final basket of the night for Western New England, capping off a career-high 15 points, shooting 7/8 from the field, as the Golden Bears went on to win the game by a final score of 69-52.
Inside the Lines:
  • Perry Blasetti, Lottia Barnes, Paige Winter, and Hannah Blake all led WNE in scoring, combining for 63 of the 69 points scored on Friday night. Blasetti led the way with 20 points, shooting 7/10 from the floor, including 2/3 from deep, collected five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
  • Barnes collected 15 points on 7/8 shooting, going 1/2 from deep, picking up two assists, a rebound, and a steal.

  • WNE had wins in their last three games over the Warriors, this being the largest win margin of the three wins.
Coach's Corner:

Head Coach, Nicki Chaszar was interviewed after the game. Chaszar was asked what she liked about the way the team responded after a tough loss to RIC on Monday. "It did feel like it was a real team win, and that was probably the most encouraging part. Having four players in double figures tells you we were sharing the ball, trusting each other, and not relying on just one or two people to carry the load. The pace, the energy on defense, and the willingness to make the extra pass stood out right away. As for the response after the RIC loss…what I liked most was the energy defensively we showed. All the little things add up to points. Monday hurt, no question, but instead of sulking, the group came in focused for the game," Chaszar stated.

Lottia Barnes was asked for a few quotes after the game. When asked about her 7-for-8 shooting performance and what led to that performance, Barnes mentioned, "I think making time before the game and during the week to get shots up on my own and with my teammates led to that." Then, when asked how Barnes has adjusted so quickly to collegiate basketball where she ended up with 15 points in game number three of the regular season, Barnes added, "I've been able to adjust well because my upperclassmen have been pushing me to get better each day, whether that's in lift or in practice."
