BOSTON, Mass. (November 22, 2025) – The Golden Bears looked to get a bounce-back victory in Boston, but the Rams had other Plans. After a 1-1 first period, which saw Ziya Damas score her first goal of the season, the Rams scored two in the second and one in the third to secure a 4-2 victory versus WNE.
Records:
Western New England: 5-3-0 (3-3-0)
Suffolk University: 4-1-1 (4-1-1)
How it Happened:
First Period:
- Rachael Irving got the start in goal for WNE, while Katelyn Michals got the start with the Rams.
- The Golden Bears open the game with intensity, looking for the opening goal, which they would get in the seventh minute of the first period. Ziya Damas found the back of the net with a shot assisted by Mikayla Mrzywka and Mabel Gerard. WNE led 1-0, and Damas had her second goal of the season.
- Suffolk answered in the 13th minute thanks to a Liliana Moose goal. Bella Schmidt and Emma Holmes were credited with the assists. The game was tied 1-1.
- WNE had the following eight shots, which were then answered by six consecutive Suffolk shots and ten of the next eleven to end the first.
- WNE had the slight edge, 13-9, in shots on goal during the opening period.
Second Period:
- Suffolk started the second period of play with four consecutive shots. The fourth shot was the goal that gave Suffolk the lead. Katie Newkirk won a faceoff to Lily Abraham. Abraham found Briana Anundsen, who scored the second Rams' goal. Suffolk led 2-1 1:49 into the second.
- WNE added pressure via seventeen of the next twenty-two shots. The Golden Bears could not find the net past Michals.
- After three Suffolk shots, WNE answered with seventeen shots in a row. However, none of the shots evened the game, and Suffolk scored its third goal on a power play in the 17th minute of the second period. Liliana Moose found Bella Schmidt, who, in turn, passed the puck to Alexia Hill. Hill scored, and the score was 3-1.
- Michals made one more save versus WNE to end the second, and the score was 3-1 after two periods of play.
- Once again, the Golden Bears sent more shots at the goal, 20-8, but did not have anything to show for it, unfortunately.
Third Period:
- The Rams opened the final period of play with the majority of the shots, 10-2.
- WNE would answer with eighteen of the next twenty-one shots, with the final shot of that sequence being an extra-skater, power play goal from Jenna Lynch, assisted by Maddie Pope at 17:33.
- The Golden Bears had hope late in the game, down 3-2, but Emma Holmes would end that hope with an empty net goal in the 19th minute. Anya Nichapor assisted with the goal.
- The Golden Bears had the final four shots of the game, but none found the net, and WNE fell 4-2.
- WNE had more shots on goal, 44-25, and more faceoff wins, 33-24. Suffolk had more blocked shots, 18-13.
