FALL RIVER, Mass. (December 5, 2025) – The Golden Bears took on the Roger Williams University Hawks for the first time on Friday evening. The Hawks would get at the Golden Bears early with a goal in the first period from TJ Sullivan. Nicholas Rooney doubled the lead in the second period, making a comeback much tougher for the Golden Bears. The Hawks would shut the door on the Golden Bears in the third with two goals, another from Nicholas Rooney and one from JJ Alger. The Hawks took down the Golden Bears 4-0.

How it Happened:
First Period:
- The opening faceoff was won by the Hawks with Nikita Volsky and Jacob Jaslow in net for the Golden Bears and Hawks, respectively.
- Daniel Demchuk had the opening shot of the game for WNE. The teams would trade shot chances after that, without catching the back of the net.
- WNE was the first team on the power play, but neither of their two shots on the man-up chance scored.
- The middle of the opening period saw the Hawks start a run of shots, going 8-for-9, with the final shot from TJ Sullivan breaking the scoreless tie. JJ Alger was credited with the assist. RWU led 1-0 with 5:22 remaining in the first.
- The teams nearly split the shots after the goal, and at the end of the first, the Hawks led 1-0. RWU led in shots 18-14 and shots on goal 10-8. The teams split the faceoffs won 10/10. WNE had one more blocked shot than RWU.
Second Period:
- The Hawks extended their lead in the second period.
- The teams traded shots early in the second before the Hawks found a second goal. Nicholas Rooney found the doubling goal thanks to another JJ Alger assist. RWU led 2-0 4:52 in the middle period.
- The Hawks had six of the next seven shots following the goal. The Golden Bears immediately answered with nine of the next ten shots to apply pressure to the Hawks. However, the Hawks kept the Golden Bears scoreless.
- A WNE penalty led to three power play shots from the Hawks, but Volsky handled the two that were sent at him to keep the deficit at two.
- The Hawks had the final four shots of the period and held a two-goal lead after the second period of play.
- RWU led the stats in period two as well. RWU had more shots, 17-14, and shots on goal, 13-10. They won more faceoffs, 11-5, and drew a penalty. The Golden Bears blocked three more shots than the Hawks in the second.
Third Period:
- The Golden Bears started the final period of play with fury. They had five shots in a row to begin the third. However, the Hawks would handle the early flurry of shots from WNE.
- The teams traded runs on shots after that. Every time it looked like the Golden Bears were building momentum and pressure, the Hawks and goalie Jacob Jaslow shut them down and kept them scoreless.
- The Golden Bears had more shots overall in the final period. However, Nicholas Rooney would help shut the door on a WNE victory with a goal assisted by TJ Sullivan in the 16th minute of the final period of play. WNE trailed 3-0.
- Then, with 2:57 left in the contest, JJ Alger received an assist from Nicholas Rooney and TJ Sullivan on his goal. RWU sealed the game with that goal and won 4-0.
- RWU outshot WNE 46-45 and 30-25 on goal. They also had more faceoff wins (29-22) and blocked shots (7-6).
Inside the Crease:
- The Golden Bears fell in defeat to the Hawks 4-0.
- TJ Sullivan and Nicholas Rooney scored the first two goals for the Hawks, with JJ Alger assisting both of them.
- Rooney and Alger scored the final two goals for the Hawks, with Sullivan having an assist on both of those goals and Rooney assisting Alger's goal.
- Jacob Jaslow ended the game for the Hawks with 25 saves and a shutout victory.
- Kosta Kastanias led the Golden Bears in shots on goal with four.
- Six Golden Bears had at least one blocked shot during the game.
