PROVIDENCE, R.I. (
December 5, 2025) – The Western New England men's wrestling team earned a dual match victory on Friday night at The Murray Center on the campus of Rhode Island College (RIC), picking up seven match victories to come up with a 28-14 win over the Anchormen, improving to 2-1 on the season in dual action.
How it Happened:
The Golden Bears fell behind in the 125 lb. weight class after RIC's Domenic Sousa defeated WNE's
Clayton O'Connor on a major decision victory, 16-3. The 133 lb. weight class went the distance, as Western New England's
Antonio Intintoli defeated RIC's Brett Redner on a 14-13 decision, earning the Golden Bears three points overall.
Nicholas Adams followed suit in the 141 lb. weight class, coming up with a 5-0 decision win over Hunter Lundberg to give the Golden Bears their first lead in the match. In the 149 lb. weight class, WNE's
James Linder battled RIC's Saliou Jobe and saw the match go the distance for the third straight bout overall, as Linder earned a close 5-4 victory for Western New England.
The wins kept coming for the Blue and Gold as
Matthew Rodriguez dominated Will Hunt in the 157 lb. weight class, earning a major decision victory, 11-0. WNE's
Teghan McConnell followed Rodriguez, picking up a major decision win of his own, coming in the 165 lb. weight class over Scott Lallas, 12-1. Western New England's win streak came to a close in the 174 lb. weight class when Aidan Faria defeated
Michael Bluhm, 14-3 on a major decision, picking up four points for RIC.
The Golden Bears bounced back with their first technical fall victory of the night when
Jaylen Hawkins defeated Andrew Pappas by a final score of 17-0 in 4:21, picking up five points for WNE, which grew the lead to 22-8, in favor of the visitors. The first fall victory came in the 197 lb. weight class, which saw WNE's
Charles Maloy take down Imanol Taveras in 5:11 to come up with six points in the match for the Golden Bears. RIC had the final win of the night in the heavyweight class when Jaden Tesher earned a fall over
Matthew Donis, but it was not enough to give RIC the home victory, as the Golden Bears picked up an impressive 28-14 victory over the Anchormen.
