SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (December 6, 2025) – The Western New England men's wrestling team celebrated its seniors prior to their pair of dual matches on home soil on Saturday afternoon, which wrestled out to be a pair of victories, defeating the Hawks of Hunter College 48-6 and the Hawks of Roger Williams University 21-16. 

How it Happened: (vs. Hunter College): 

The Golden Bears picked up wins in the 125 lb. and 133 lb. weight classes following forfeits from Hunter. Nine of ten weight classes went WNE's way in the match against Hunter, including the first wrestling bout as Austin Monteiro pinned Nacim Benzine in 1:53. James Linder went to overtime in the 149 lb. weight class and got the takedown to pick up a win, 4-1, over Jayden Medina, giving the Golden Bears a 21-0 lead. 

The wins continued for the Golden Bears when Matthew Rodriguez came up with a competitive 17-12 decision victory over Marc Kleyman. David Lisk earned a win at 165 for WNE, a fall victory in 3:20, adding six points to the WNE total. Maxwell Bluhm followed suit with a fall victory in 4:05 for WNE's last win of the match, which secured a 48-6 victory over the Hawks of Hunter.

How it Happened (vs. Roger Williams University) 

Starting in the heavyweight class, Roger Williams picked up the first four points of the match when RWU's Jayden Toppan picked up a major decision over Colton Wells, 18-9. RWU had wins in the first two matches as Spencer Buscema earned a fall win over Clayton O'Connor, giving RWU a 10-0 lead. Western New England bounced back with the next three wins, as all of Austin Mitrosky (133 lbs.), Austin Monteiro (141 lbs.), and James Linder (149 lbs.) picked up decision wins, with Mitrosky's on a major decision, helping the Golden Bears tie the match at ten. 

RWU was back in the win column at 157 lbs., as Jack Forte earned a close 5-3 decision victory over Matthew Rodriguez. At 165 lbs., Western New England earned a key victory in the 165 lb. weight class when David Lisk picked up an 8-1 decision over Gordon Murray. Wins continued for WNE to seal that match, as Maxwell Bluhm picked up a 3-1 decision at 174 lbs., and Jaylen Hawkins iced the match with a 19-3 technical fall victory in 6:02, giving WNE a 21-13 lead and ending up winning the match by a final score of 21-16 to defeat the Hawks.
