Golden Bears Men’s Wrestling Sweeps Plymouth State, Trinity College, & Southern Maine at Golden Bear Duals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 8, 2025) – The Western New England men's wrestling team showed a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon at their own Golden Bear Duals, defeating Plymouth State University, Trinity College, and the University of Southern Maine, going 3-0 on the day and improving to 13-4 in dual action this season. 

How it Happened: vs. Plymouth State
The Golden Bears got off to a quick start against the Panthers as Clayton O'Connor earned a forfeit victory in the 125 lb. weight class. Plymouth State would storm back with the next fall victory in the 133 lb. weight class, coming away with six points to tie the match at six. It would be all Golden Bears in the next eight of nine weight classes, as WNE's Ayden Cheng came up with a win in the 141 lb. weight class over Cameron Monahan in 2:50, earning WNE six more points. Peter Charnley would also pick up a fall victory in 2:31 over John Allmers as WNE extended their lead. The Golden Bears earned forfeit victories in both the 157 lb. and 165 lb. weight classes, as Colin Carlin and Tristan Julian took the wins for WNE. CJ Glaropoulos would earn a major decision win, 8-0 over Robert Tarasuk at 174, getting WNE four more points. Plymouth State grabbed an 8-1 decision win for their final win of the match at 184. WNE would finish off the match with a forfeit win at 197 for Charles Maloy, while Aidan DeLuca came away with the major decision 14-2 in the heavyweight, as Western New England would earn a 44-9 win over Plymouth State.

How it Happened (vs. Trinity College): 
The match started in the 157 lb. weight class as Colin Carlin came away with his second win on the afternoon, this time defeating Andrew Pratt on a 4-1 decision to get Western New England rolling. In fact, the Golden Bears had wins in the first six matches overall, including the 165 lb. weight class, as David Lisk came up with an 8-1 decision win over John Lagana. Cameron Hines continues the Golden Bears win streak at 174, picking up a TF win 15-0 in 6:01. Also victorious were Jaylen Hawkins (184 lbs. – MD, 13-2), Charles Maloy (197 lbs. – Fall, 0:46), and Spencer Dickinson (Fall, 3:07), which quickly gave Western New England a 27-0 lead in the match. James Linder finished the match with a victory for WNE over Chris Perry on a 6-2 decision, giving the Golden Bears a 30-10 victory over the Bantams.

How it Happened (vs. University of Southern Maine): 
The match also started in the 157 lb. weight class, and Colin Carlin once again came away with a win to get Western New England going. Carlin earned a big technical fall victory, 19-3 over Silas Runez. David Lisk would come away with a victory at 165 for the Golden Bears, earning a victory via fall in 3:52. Cameron Hines came up with a victory in 3:37 in the 174 lb. weight class, nearly coming up with a fall victory. Jaylen Hawkins would go undefeated on the afternoon with a win over Michael Sanchez of USM on a pin, getting the win in 2:43. Clayton O'Connor earned WNE's final win of the day in the 125 lb. weight class, earning a dominant major decision victory 12-3.
