HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 12, 2025) – The Western New England men's tennis team debuted their season on Wednesday morning after two rain outs pushed back the opening of the season. The Golden Bears would play in a tightly contested match to begin the season but the Gorloks of Webster University would win in the end, defeating WNE by a final score of 4-3.

How it Happened:
The team of
Quinn Northrop and
Nolan Jermain picked up a win in the doubles round in spot number two for the Golden Bears, their first win of the season, picking up a 6-3 victory. Webster would take the all-important point out of the doubles round after getting wins in the top spot as well as the third spot, despite a hard-fought effort from
Brandon Greger and
Henry Runyan, who fell just short, 4-6, giving Webster the 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles action, the Golden Bears would be taken down in the first two singles matches but were winners in the third singles match as
Quinn Northrop impressed in his debut in blue and gold, taking down Matthew Birchmeier of Webster on a 6-2, 6-3 score, picking up a point for WNE. In the fourth spot, WNE's
Nolan Jermain needed all three sets to get past Tyler Gonalzes, picking up a 6-4, 4-6, 10-2 victory for the blue and gold. Western New England also claimed victory in the sixth singles spot as
Henry Runyan opened his singles season 1-0, coming up with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Shawn Smith. In a grouping that needed extra time in the first set, WNE senior
Brandon Greger would fall just short in the fifth singles spot as Jack Forlenza would defeat Greger 6-7 (5-7), 4-6, giving Webster the point that pushed the Gorloks over the Golden Bears, defeating Western New England men's tennis by a final score of 4-3.
