Golden Bears Clipped By Shepherd In Hilton Head, 4-3

HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 13, 2025) – The Western New England women's tennis team came up with a point out of the doubles round and pulled out two more wins in singles action but would fall by a final score of 4-3 to Shepherd University on Thursday night under the lights of Cordillo Tennis Courts.

How it Happened:

The Golden Bears opened doubles action with two wins, earning them the first point of the evening match, which began at 8:00 PM. Yasmine Giacalone and Kayla Ledoux teamed up for a doubles victory for Western New England, defeating Shepherd's Hallie Meyer and Lily Gross 6-4. Kelsey Wyse and Leina Salomon would follow suit for Western New England in the third doubles position, taking down Alexus Vaughn and Victoria Ames by a final score of 6-4, starting WNE women's tennis with a 1-0 lead. 

In singles action, the Golden Bears would not be as successful in the top four spots as Shepherd would come away with wins in the top four spots overall. WNE did come up with wins in the fifth and sixth positions, however. Gabrielle Tirkot came up with an 8-6 victory over Alexus Vaughan while Kayla Ledoux notched an 8-3 win over Victoria Ames in the sixth spot. Despite the four match victories for WNE, Shepherd would knock off WNE with a 4-3 win.
