Hawks Take Down Women’s Lacrosse In CNE Play Saturday

BRISTOL, R.I. (April 12, 2025) – The Western New England women's lacrosse team dropped a Conference of New England game on Saturday afternoon to the Hawks of Roger Williams University, falling by a final score of 22-1.

How it Happened:

The Hawks opened the first quarter with eight goals and never looked back in the game, dominating the Golden Bears from the start. Mia Pantano, who led RWU on the afternoon, gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead just over two minutes into the game. The Hawks continued to score with Alli Shamberger, Ella Waryas, and Emma Terino all accounting for Hawks goals. The Golden Bears would turn the ball over six times in the opening quarter, three turnovers caused by the Hawks. The Golden Bears had two early shots on goal in the first quarter by Mia Celentano, both saved by Zoey Cormican. Western New England did have seven shots overall in the first quarter, their most in any quarter on the afternoon.

Roger Williams continued their dominance in the second quarter and would quickly begin running time less than four minutes into the second quarter. The Hawks scored four more goals in the second, with Margo Tenney scoring twice and Mia Pantano following suit, giving the Hawks a 12- 0 lead at the half. WNE turned the ball over four times in the second quarter, three of which were caused by the Hawks. Western New England picked up one shot on goal from Lina Eves, but Cormican came away with her third save of the game. 

RWU did not back off in the third quarter, leveling the Golden Bears with a seven spot on the scoreboard while the offense would be nearly non-existent by WNE on the afternoon. WNE took no shots in the third quarter while the Hawks overwhelmed the Golden Bears. Ella Waras, Lauren Canata, Emma Terino, Mirana Hayes, and Mia Pantano all found the back of the net for the Hawks, taking a 19-0 lead after three-quarters of play. WNE won just one of seven draw controls in the third. 

The fourth and final quarter of the game saw Mia Celentano score the only goal of the game for the Golden Bears at the 10:50 mark. Celentano would be assisted by Ella Nish for her team-leading 37th goal of the season. Both teams would take five shots in the fourth quarter with the Hawks scoring four more goals to add to their total to come away with a 23-1 win over the Golden Bears. 

Inside the Lines:
  • RWU has defeated the Golden Bears 11 straight times overall in their matchups. WNE's last win came in 2015. 
  • Emma Terino scored six goals and added five assists, good for 11 points in the game. Mia Pantano scored seven goals and added an assist, good for eight total points. 
  • RWU outshot WNE 32-16 in the game. WNE scooped 14 ground balls.
