Fourth, Fifth, And Sixth Singles Get The Job Done To Earn WNE 4-3 Victory Over UMass-Boston

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 17, 2025) – The Western New England men's tennis team came up with their second non-conference win of the week against its second Little East Conference opponent, taking down the Beacons of UMass-Boston on Thursday afternoon from Forest Park Tennis Courts by a final score of 4-3.

How It Happened:

The doubles point played an important role for the Golden Bears on Thursday, allowing them to take a 1-0 lead in the match, coming up with wins in the second and third doubles pairings. Kyle Poccia and Ryan Keith collected a massive 7-6 (7-4) win in the second spot for the Golden Bears, while Joshua Marx and Thomas Roche would sweep the third doubles pairing that gave Western New England the all-important first point of the match. 

In singles play, UMass-Boston would take the top three matches as Kyle Poccia (6-0, 6-2), Ryan Keith (6-4, 6-1), and Joshua Marx (6-3, 6-3) would all fall short in their matches but the Golden Bears would fight back in their fourth, fifth, and sixth singles matches. Eston Fowler would compete in the fourth singles slot and would pick up a 7-6 (6-4), 6-4 victory. Thomas Roche would then earn a 6-1, 6-1 win for the Golden Bears in the fifth spot. Brandon Allen would come up with a 7-6 (6-2), 6-3 victory in the sixth spot, which clinched Western New England the victory in the match, defeating UMass-Boston by a final score of 4-3 in the match, winning their fifth match overall this season.
