Golden Bears Score in Every Quarter, Take Down Hawks 5-0

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (September 13, 2025) – The Golden Bears marched into Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium in West Hartford, Connecticut, hoping to get their first conference victory of the season. They would leave with a 5-0 win, thanks to five WNE goal-scorers and nine assists.

Records:

  • Western New England: 3-2 (1-0)
  • University of Hartford: 2-2 (0-0)

How it Happened:

  • The contest began with Alex Tardugno and Carolyn Somers in goal for WNE and Hartford, respectively.
  • WNE took over the first quarter from the beginning. They had the majority of possession and had the first two penalty corners.
  • Analise Trani scored off the second penalty corner twelve minutes into the game. Tessa Ebreo took the corner, and Haley Kaczka was credited with the assist.
  • The first quarter ended three minutes later, but WNE still had two shots saved by Somers and a penalty corner taken in that time.
  • The second quarter saw a similar story. WNE took control of possession and had two shots saved by Somers and another penalty corner before Paige Remington scored an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute of the contest. WNE led 2-0.
  • WNE continued to send pressure at Hartford with two shots that had to be saved by Somers, two more penalty corners, and one more shot that was blocked.
  • WNE led in shots 9-0 in the first half. They also led in shots on goal, 8-0 and penalty corners 6-0. Hartford had more saves, 6-0.
  • The third quarter saw WNE add another goal to their lead.
  • WNE had three shots and two penalty corners before they scored their third goal. Mikayla Mrzywka scored a second goal of the season thanks to a Jenna Nigro assist.
  • WNE had two more penalty corners and three shots, with two being saved and one going wide, to end the third quarter.
  • Carolyn Somers made another save to start the fourth quarter, but after another WNE penalty corner, WNE saw Tania Evans score thanks to a Mikayla Mrzywka assist in the 51st minute of the match.
  • Somers would make one more save before Kayla Suprenant scored Suprenant's first goal of the season. Mikayla Mrzywka also assisted with that goal. WNE led 5-0.
  • The contest ended soon after the fifth goal, and WNE won the game 5-0.

Inside the Lines:

  • WNE defeated Hartford 5-0 to earn their first CNE victory of the season.
  • WNE saw Analise Trani open the scoring in the 13th minute of play. Haley Kaczka had the assist.
  • Paige Remington scored goal number two in the 23rd minute unassisted.
  • Mikayla Mrzywka scored goal number three in the 37th minute, with the assist coming from Jenna Nigro.
  • The 51st minute saw Tania Evans score on a pass from Mikayla Mrzywka.
  • Kayla Suprenant scored the final WNE goal with Mikayla Mrzywka assisting that goal as well.
  • Mikayla Mrzywka had four points during the game and was a part of three of the five WNE goals.
  • Alex Tardugno gets credited with the shutout win.
  • The final statistics showed WNE had more shots, 20-0, shots on goal, 17-0, and penalty corners, 11-1. Hartford had more saves, 12-0.
