Wyse Picks Up Singles Victory, Women’s Tennis Falls In Season Opener At Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. (September 13, 2025) – The Western New England women's tennis team opened its 2025 fall campaign on Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England action but were stopped short of victory, falling 6-1 to the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College.

Records:
  • Western New England: 0-1, 0-1 CNE
  • Colby-Sawyer College: 1-0, 1-0 CNE
How it Happened:

The Golden Bears would not be able to score any points in the doubles round, falling in all three matches by the same score of 6-2. Sydney Shepard and Lauren Bilodeau battled in the top doubles spot for the Golden Bears. Yasmine Giacalone and Kayala Ledoux fought for WNE in the second doubles spot and Gabrielle Tirkot and Kelsey Wyse in the third spot, but the ball did not bounce in Western New England's favor, falling behind 1-0 in the match.

In singles action, Colby-Sawyer stayed on top of the Golden Bears through the first five matches. Emma Miller would fall in the top spot 6-1, 6-1. Sydney Shepard dropped the second singles match 6-1, 6-0. Kelsey Wyse came up victorious for Western New England in the sixth singles spot, earning a 6-7, 7-5, 10-8 win for the Golden Bears, picking up her first singles win of the season. Despite the effort from WNE, the team would fall by a final score of 6-1.

Coaches Corner:
Head Coach Steven Duquette commented on the victory for Wyse. "Kelsey's relentless attack at the net behind sliced backhands and forehand drives to the corners. Her excellent forehand volleyball did the damage"
Duquette joked: " The match was played at the "Kelsey Courts", perhaps she felt at home".

Up Next on the Schedule:
  • WNE women's tennis will open their home schedule in CNE action on Tuesday, September 16 at 3:30 PM, welcoming Nichols College to Forest Park Tennis Courts.
