Nichols Spoils Women’s Tennis’ Home Opener, 6-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 16, 2025) – The Western New England women's tennis team was defeated in Conference of New England action on Tuesday afternoon at Forest Park Tennis Courts, dropping a 6-1 contest to the Bison of Nichols College.

How it Happened:

The Golden Bears started off with a win in the third doubles position after Nichols would forfeit the match, giving a win to Yasmine Giacalone and Kayla Ledoux. In the top spot for the Golden Bears, Emma Miller and Malina Dinis battled the Bison top two in the lineup and fell by a score 6-2 in a tight battle. In the second doubles spot, Nichols earned a 6-0 win over Sydney Shepard and Lauren Bilodeau, earning the doubles point in the match to take a 1-0 lead. 

In singles action, Western New England pulled out a win in the sixth singles spot as Kayla Ledoux earned the forfeit victory. Emma Miller fought hard in the top spot for the Golden Bears but dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision. Lauren Bilodeau also fought, including a close second set but would drop a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Cora Brosch. The Golden Bears did not come up with a victory in singles action, falling in the match by a final score of 6-1. 

Coaches Corner:

Head Coach Steven Duquette was pleased with his team's effort following the match despite the result against the top women's tennis squad in the CNE. "It was an excellent job executing our game plan. Our team has a license to play their biggest and boldest tennis versus the number one team in the CNE."

Up Next on the Schedule:
  • Western New England women's tennis will jump right back into Conference of New England play on Saturday, September 20 at 12:00 PM to take on Curry College on the road, looking for their first win of the season.
