Golden Bears Women’s Tennis Sweeps Curry, Pick Up First Win Of 2025

MILTON, Mass. (September 20, 2025) – The Western New England women's tennis team handled the hosting Colonels of Curry College in Conference of New England play on Saturday afternoon to pick up its first victory of the season. Every Golden Bear who competed on Saturday earned victories in straight sets.

  • Curry College: 0-2, 0-2 CNE
How it Happened:
  • WNE picked up sweeps in doubles action as Emma Miller and Malina Dinis teamed up with a 6-0 win in the top doubles spot, Sydney Shepard and Lauren Bilodeau took down Curry's second doubles pairing 6-0, and Yasmine Giacalone and Kayla Ledoux finished up play with another 6-0 victory for Western New England, giving WNE an early 1-0 lead in the match. 
  • The blue and gold continued to cruise past the Colonels as Miller earned a retirement victory in the top singles spot, 6-0, 5-0 ret. Dinis notched a 6-1, 6-1 straight-sets victory for the blue and gold in the second singles position. WNE continued its winning ways with Sydney Shepard in the third singles spot, earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory. 
  • All of Lauren Bilodeau, Yasmine Giacalone, and Kayla Ledoux picked up 6-0, 6-0 victories, respectively, in the fourth, fifth, and sixth singles positions, helping the Golden Bears sweep Curry and earn their first victory of the season.
  • WNE Head Coach Steven Duquette earned his first win at the helm of the WNE women's tennis team this afternoon. 
Coach's Corner:
  • Duquette was extremely pleased with his team's performance this afternoon and commented, "Once leads were established, it was an opportunity to work on our game while in uniform. Yasmine was hitting her current topspin second service spiced up as a first serve. The slice serve placement of Elise (Catlett) and Madelyn (Hills) in warm-ups and extra doubles was impressive!
