DANBURY, Conn. (September 17, 2025) – The men's soccer program faced off against the Wolves of Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT, on Wednesday. WCSU's Juan Gomez Herrera notched the opening goal, giving WCSU a 1-0 lead in the first half. Denton Guy-Williams found the back of the net in the 78th minute to seal the 2-0 win for the Wolves.

How it Happened:
First Half:
- Miles Lanier and Zachary Benson began the contest in goal for WNE and WCSU, respectively.
- The first half started with the teams trading shots and corner kicks.
- WCSU would gain the advantage in shots and had more passion in the middle of the first half. It would lead to the first goal of the contest.
- Juan Gomez Herrera had a few opportunities in the first half, including a header shot, that could not find the goal. However, in the 29th minute, Juan Gomez Herrera found the back of the net thanks to an assist from Nickolas Santana. WCSU led 1-0.
- WCSU kept the pressure up with the first shot after the goal, which Lanier had to make a save against.
- Neither team would have another shot, and the halftime score was 1-0, WCSU.
- The first half stats saw WCSU lead in shots 8-3, shots on goal 3-1, corner kicks 6-1, and fouls 3-1. WNE had more saves, 2-1.
Second Half:
- The second half saw WNE start with intensity and have the first shot on goal. Lewis sent the shot at goal, but Benson saved it.
- Matthews Rocha answered, but Lanier had the save.
- The teams traded opportunities, and Makai Smith would enter the game as the Wolves' goalie in the 71st minute.
- Smith was almost immediately tested by Matt Spruill and was equal to the task.
- WNE looked to be garnering momentum before Jeffrey Norales found Denton Guy-Williams, who scored WCSU's second goal. WCSU led 2-0.
- WNE would not see a single major opportunity arise after that. WCSU had four shots, with three on goal, and WNE would fall to Western Connecticut State 2-0.
