Miller Goes The Distance In Toe-To-Toe Top Singles Match With Roger Williams

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 27, 2025) – Western New England women's tennis junior Emma Miller forced a third set in Saturday's Conference of New England match against the Hawks of Roger Williams University following her three-setter last night, but fell in a close 3-6, 7-5, 7-10 match as the Golden Bears were swept by a final score of 7-0 on Saturday afternoon from Forest Park Tennis Courts.

Records:
  • Western New England: 1-4, 1-3 CNE
  • Roger Williams University: 7-0, 3-0 CNE
How it Happened:

After being swept in doubles action, the Golden Bears looked to bounce back quickly against the top team in the Conference of New England standings, the undefeated Hawks of Roger Williams. Malina Dinis, Sydney Shepard, Yasmine Giacalone, and Kayla Ledoux all picked up a game in the second set but were not able to come up with any other victories as the Hawks completed the sweep over WNE.

In the top singles match, WNE's Emma Miller dropped the opening set 3-6, but fought back to force a third set after coming away with a 7-5 victory in the second set. Miller took hold of a late lead in the deciding set before RWU's Valentina Abarca came away with the 10-7 victory over Miller, who fought back following a three-set match in yesterday's top singles against UMass-Dartmouth.

Coach's Corner:
  • Despite the loss, Head Coach Steven Duquette praised his top spot singles player for the effort in today's match. "Emma Miller gave the team 110% today as she did until dusk yesterday. The quality of her points makes it incredibly physical. She deserves an A+ for "fighting spirit". Emma committed to improving last night."
Up Next on the Schedule:
  • The Golden Bears head to Endicott College for a rescheduled match from last week. The rescheduled match takes place this Monday, September 29, at 3:30 PM.
