How it Happened:
First Period:
- The Colonels got the game started quickly with a goal twelve seconds in from Jett Otwell. It was a tic-tac-toe goal from Andrew Morton to Taurin Haddon-Harris to Otwell, and the Colonels led 1-0.
- The Golden Bears would show fight and start to send pucks at the first-year, first-start goalie, Ryan Rhodes. They would eventually succeed as Gavin Mastrodonato scored on the power play off assists from Michaell Bottrell and Philippe Longchamps. The game was tied 1-1 5:33 into the contest.
- The Golden Bears would secure additional power play chances as the first continued, but could not score. The Colonels picked up a second goal thanks to a Victor Daigneault even-strength goal in the 10th minute of the game. Gage Dill had the first assist, and Karim Gayfullin had the second. Nikita Volsky would be solid the rest of the first period, and the score stayed 2-1 going into the second, with the Colonels ending the opening period of play on the power play.
Second Period:
- The second saw the Golden Bears play strongly with the ninth-ranked team in the nation. Jesse Galassi scored the third goal of the game for the Colonels, thanks to an assist from Mason Kesselring 5:06 into the second.
- That two-goal lead would not last long as Matty Zdanowicz scored another power play goal for the Golden Bears. Matthew Dougherty and Jimmy Mettler assisted the goal three minutes and twenty-six seconds after the Colonels' goal.
- The teams traded crucial opportunities after that goal, but neither would score again in the second period. The Colonels had more shots on goal in the second, 14-10, and won nine more faceoffs compared to the Golden Bears. The score was 3-2 going into the final period of play.
Third Period:
- The Colonels' pressure would eventually wear down the Golden Bears, who scored multiple goals in the third to seal the 6-2 win. Chance Uzzell had the first goal of the third period of play. Blake Rothstein and Tyler Isherwood assisted in the goal to make the score 4-2.
- The Colonels added two more goals after that. Taurin Haddon-Harris and Casper Soderling had the goals. Soderling's goal was on the power play. Jett Otwell and Andrew Morton assisted the first goal, and Mason Kesselring and Victor Daigneault assisted the final goal of the evening.
