Golden Bears Get Production From Every Player, Roll Past Wentworth, 86-33

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 17, 2026) – The Western New England women's basketball team eased past the visiting Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon, taking down the Leopards by a final score of 86-33. Every active Golden Bear had a hand in the victory, scoring at least one bucket.

Records:
  • Western New England: 11-4, 5-2 CNE
  • Wentworth Institute of Technology: 1-15, 0-8 CNE
How it Happened:
First Quarter:
  • The Golden Bears got out to a quick 7-0 lead as the rout looked to be on in the early goings of the game. Perry Blasetti and Sophie Hedge splashed triples while Erin Reen got on the board at the free throw line to quickly put the Golden Bears ahead less than two minutes into the game. Wentworth battled back quickly, scoring the next eight points to shock the Golden Bears to take an 8-7 lead. Mia Luna Zayas and Taylor Garabedian picked up buckets for the Leopards.
  • The eight points in a stretch of a minute for the Leopards would be all the visitors would get in the quarter. Western New England went on a 9-0 run to end the frame, with Devlyn McDonald, Erin Reen, Perry Blasetti, and Olivia Chrzan getting in on the action for WNE, giving the Golden Bears a 16-8 first-quarter lead.
  • The Golden Bears shot just 35% from the field in the opening frame, going 6/17. Wentworth made just two field goals, both coming from the outside.
Second Quarter:
  • Sophie Hedge had a quick five points to open the second quarter while Chrzan continued to be a factor for WNE down low, as Western New England's lead started to rise quickly. Wentworth was saved by a triple and then a layup to get back within 12, but again, the small run for the Leopards would be all they would get, as WNE finished off the quarter with the final 12 points to put the game out of reach at halftime.
  • Katie Regan, Paige Winter, Sarah West, Sophie Hedge, and Erin Reen all contributed for Western New England in the second quarter, as WNE shot 10/13 from the field, 77% overall, burying the Leopards, leading 37-13 at the half.
Third Quarter:
  • Western New England had 16 points in the first four minutes of the third quarter, while Wentworth failed to score. Devlyn McDonald, Perry Blasetti, Paige Winter, Erin Reen, and Sophie Hedge all contributed to WNE's big lead, taking a 53-13 advantage.
  • Wentworth had the next seven points in the game as Taylor Garabedian got to the rim for the Leopards. WIT's highest point total in any quarter came in the third, scoring 12 points. Western New England's hot shooting wrapped up the third quarter as the team shot 11/16 from the floor, a 69% clip. WNE took a 61-25 lead out of the third and into the final quarter of action.
Fourth Quarter:
  • Western New England finished out a big win with key contributions as every Golden Bear who played on Saturday scored a bucket. In the fourth quarter, Olivia Chrzan and Katie Regan opened the scoring for the Golden Bears while Alexa Rabidoux had the next five, giving WNE a 70-28 lead.
  • Lizzie Hansen, Eliana Wood, and Lottia Barnes contributed late for Western New England, who handed Wentworth a big loss, defeating the Leopards 86-33.
  • WNE shot an efficient 11/17 from the floor in the final quarter to finish off Wentworth.
Inside the Lines:
  • All active Golden Bears scored in the win, 12 players in total.
  • Sophie Hedge led WNE with 13 points on 5/6 shooting, going 3/3 from the outside. Hedge grabbed five rebounds and picked up two steals in the victory.
  • Devlyn McDonald picked up a career-high 12 points on 6/11 shooting, picking up three assists and a steal.
  • Olivia Chrzan was also in double figures with ten points, going 5/7 from the field, picking up two rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal.
