Middletown, R.I. (January 24, 2026) – The Golden Bears continued their winstreak, making it four in Rhode Island on Saturday evening. Records:
Western New England: 11-6-0 (7-3-0)
Salve Regina University: 9-10-0 (0-0-0)

How it Happened:
First Period:
  • The opening period of play saw a stalemate between the teams on the scoreboard. The teams sent the puck back and forth but could not find a goal. Both Brooklyn Godisak and Sydney Baxter kept a clean sheet in the first.
  • The Seahawks had one power play in the first period of play. They would not pick up any shots during the power play.
  • The Seahawks outshot the Golden Bears 13-5 on goal in the first period of play. Neither team was able to get an advantage in the first, but the Seahawks had the momentum after the first.
Second Period:
  • The Golden Bears flipped the momentum quite early into the middle period of play. Mabel Gerard scored the opening goal and what proved to be the game-winning goal on a WNE power play chance. Maddie Pope and Jenna Lynch assisted the goal 2:14 into the second.
  • The Golden Bears had two power play chances during the second period of play. The first netted a goal, and the second saw three shots, with none of them testing Baxter in the net. The Seahawks had one power play and five shots during it. However, three Godisak saves and good defense prevented a game-tying goal.
  • Once again, the Seahawks had more shots on goal, 11-7. WNE had fewer penalties called against them versus SRU, 2-1. The Golden Bears had a 1-0 lead after one
Third Period:
  • The Seahawks started the third with a flurry of shots, but the WNE defense and goalie Godisak kept them from tying the contest. WNE killed off a four-shot SRU power play and set themselves up to win the game.
  • Mikayla Mrzywka ended the game with a goal in the 15th minute of the final period of play. The goal was unassisted and helped cap off a 2-0 win for WNE, making it their fourth win in a row.
  • The Golden Bears were outshot 33-19, but Brooklyn Godisak made 33 saves to secure a shutout victory for WNE. SRU also won more faceoffs, 29-25, but WNE had more blocked shots, 15-3.
